After a successful test with employees, Wegmans released a mobile app called SCAN that’s designed to help customers check out faster. The free app is available for use at one of the company’s Rochester, NY stores, where customers can scan groceries as they shop, put the products in their carts or bags, and quickly pay at a self-checkout station.

Wegmans plans a phased roll out of the app to more stores, the timing of which will depend on the apps initial success.

To shop with SCAN, customers must connect to the store’s WiFi network and link the app to their Wegmans Shoppers Club account. Club discounts and clipped digital coupons are applied automatically, and shoppers can see a running total of their purchases. Scales are available throughout the store to weigh items as necessary.
