Results from a survey conducted by Acosta that were released earlier this week concluded that of all shoppers who made online grocery purchases between March 20-29, 28% were first-timers who shopped online because of COVID-19.

There were many other survey findings related to the pandemic, but most were old news at this point. For instance, we know that stocking up has become more commonplace; canned foods, shelf stable foods, paper products and household cleaners are the top sellers; most shoppers have experienced out-of-stocks, and most consumers have changed their shopping habits to a certain extent.

It will be interesting to see how many of these first time online grocery customers remain as online customers when the pandemic ends, and to see what new behaviors become new habits. Stay tuned…
